Dr Suleyman Demirsoy, Director of LIS
Suleyman works at Intel and has many interests around technology and computing, including machine learning and artificial intelligence. He works very hard to develop LIS and provide more engaging educational experiences for Young Minds.
Suleyman is an inspiration to all the STEM Ambassadors and young minds that he engages with.
Ruth Haley, STEM coordinator
Ruth is an enthusiastic Biochemist from York, where she discovered her passion for protein science and sustainability. She works as part of the National Cancer Research Institute building connections between cancer researchers to reach NCRI’s goal to cure cancer.
Metin Ozer, Marketing and Branding Manager
Metin is a self-employed communications professional. Long story short: Give him a bit of bare information about what you’re up to, and he will show up soon with a proof of concept which covers all the essentials about your story—connecting the dots to illustrate your message.
Suheyla Celik, STEM Ambassador
Suheyla is a passionate medical student at King’s College London, having previously graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She enjoys volunteering within different organisations to enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to get into medical school within the UK as well as delivering interactive workshops within LIS to inspire young minds.
Burhan Bektas, STEM Ambassador
Burhan is a dentist and is enthusiastic about dental education and health promotions, as he is a master’s student at University College London’s Faculty of Epidemiology and Public Health. He is proud to be a part of the LIS team and has given science workshops on the nervous system and cell structure to children from 9-11 years. He spends his time on volunteering activities related with STEM workshops, mentoring kids and attending societies in his university
Yavuz Kulaber, STEM Ambassador
Yavuz is a Research Scientist working at UCL. Yavuz has actively been involved in LIS STEM activities for many years. More specifically, Yavuz likes to get pupils inspired by getting real lab equipment in front of them. He believes this broadens their horizons and brings them closer to research and innovation.
Safiye Ipek, Social Media Manager
Safiye graduated with a degree in Material Sciences & Engineering in Turkey. She has a passion for volunteering and keeps her mind busy with new updates in tech where Elon Musk inspired her. She is currently part of LIS Social Media Team. In addition to these interests Safiye enjoys learning about space, playing basketball and cycling.
Pedro Caetano, Comms manager
Pedro came to London in Jan 2017 to study Arts Production and joined the London Innovation Society that same year, where he developed skills within marketing & event management. Pedro manages Vesuvio Labs’ BDM activities through all channels by day. In his spare time he also looks after a very busy schedule of in-house and external events for the Entrepreneur Team.
Emel Demirpolat, STEM Ambassador
Emel graduated from biomedical sciences and is currently studying medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. She is passionate in supporting the younger generation to pursue careers in science and medicine. Her favourite workshop to e involved with involved looking at biotechnology inspired by nature. She loves to embroider, and travel in order expreience new cultures.
Dilsah Karaagac, STEM Ambassador
Dilsah is a hardworking and ambitious person who pursues her further education in Biomedical Sciences. She enjoys being actively involved in a wide variety of events to share learning and happiness around her. Spending time with children through STEM activities within LIS inspires Dilsah to be successful in life and be an inspiration for young minds.
Elif Karaagac, STEM Ambassador
Elif is a versatile person who wants to maintain her further education in Economics besides volunteering with a variety of organisations. She enjoy interacting with others and encouraging everyone to grow. Elif joined our begineers coding workshops helping our young minds create some simple robots.
Alan Gulle, STEM Ambassador
Alan has been involved with LIS for many years and before moving to London taught children in Africa.
Now he is the Research & Development lead of an insurance tech company, and runs workshops on coding for beginners using BBC Microbit. He is enthusiastic about everything and wants his students to think independently and creatively to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Ahsen Ustaoglu, STEM Ambassador
Ahsen is a second year PhD student at the Blizard Institute, Barts and the London, QMUL. She is an eager researcher who enjoys writing in her science blog in her free time. She is an academic mentor who champions young displaced women and organises projects to empower them through STEM projects with the aim of boosting their aspirations.
